Artists Catherine King and Wayne Adams, left, have spent 25 years living on a self-sufficient floating compound, main, that they aptly named Freedom Cove off Canada’s Vancouver Island. They grow their own food – Wayne installed a gravity-fed water system so they can garden and be self-sufficient – they rely on solar energy and generators, welcome curious visitors and draw inspiration for their art from nature. Wayne sources food by fishing local waters – and can even fish through a hole in the floor (top right) which he never actually does because he doesn’t want to disturb the schools of fish living under their property – and the couple say they are living their dream of sustainable living in nature.
